Prosthesis & Filling
Prosthesis and filling are two different restorative treatment methods used in dentistry. Both are used to repair damaged or missing parts of the teeth. However, they are used for different purposes and situations.

Dentures and fillings are important treatment methods used to restore the health and function of teeth. Your dentist will determine which treatment method is most suitable for your situation and needs.
Dentures
Dentures are artificial teeth or sets of teeth used to replace missing teeth or teeth. It is used to solve aesthetic and functional problems as a result of tooth loss and to protect the oral structure. Prostheses can be of two main types:
- Total Prosthesis (Full Prosthesis): If a person has lost all his/her teeth, a total prosthesis placed on the upper or lower jaw can be used. These prostheses are fixed in the mouth by sitting on the gums.
- Partial Denture: These prostheses, which are used to replace missing teeth, are attached to an area with natural teeth. They are made of metal or plastic and special clips or fasteners can be used to attach to the natural teeth.
Filling
Fillings are restorative materials used to repair decayed or damaged areas of teeth. The filling material restores the tooth structure by filling the cavity after the decayed tissue has been removed. Filling materials can be:
- Amalgam Fillings: They are silver-coloured metallic fillings. They are frequently used because they are durable and cost effective.
- Composite Fillings: They are composite materials that are in a colour suitable for tooth colour. They are more aesthetically preferred because they provide an appearance compatible with the natural tooth colour.
- Ceramic Fillings: They are porcelain-based filling materials. They give the best aesthetic results and provide an appearance similar to the natural tooth structure.
